Artist in Residence, Jessie Stanley

Jessie Stanley embraces the congruence of graphic design and visual art as platforms for sharing ideas and creating social connections. Through typography, mapping, printed ephemera, sculpture, projection, and digital media, Stanley creates experiences that at once ground you in the wonder of the here and now; while simultaneously expanding your perspective against the astronomical scale of the universe.

Works are driven by historiographic research, and underpinned by scientific theory. Unearthing the stories bound to a place and time, Stanley seeks to unravel how place can connect us through time to reveal pivotal aspects of our heritage. Her composed narratives are anchored within a macro context: drawing on the physical laws and properties of the natural world to pursue insights into our universal heritage. Stanley creates scenarios for audiences to consider the sublime and exquisite relationship we have with the universe, Her works are thought provoking and poetic, celebrating the fragility and impermanence of life.

With a minimalist and geometric sensibility, her works gently shift perceptions and find a direct and accessible path for audiences to embark together with her through time and space.

I wish to acknowledge the the Wurundjeri people as the traditional owners of the land in which this residency takes place. I recognise their continuing connection to land, waterways and community. I pay respect to them and their culture, and to their Elders past, present and future.
